    • IAU 100k WORLD CUP SEOUL , KOREA OCTOBER 8 TH , 2006
    • SEOUL, WHERE THE ANCIENT AND MODERN MEET.
      • SEOUL IS A MODERN METROPOLOUS OF 18 MILLION PEOPLE.
      • IT HELD BOTH THE 1988 OLYMPICS AND THE 2002 WORLD CUP
      • SEOUL IS SET ALONG THE HAN “GREAT” RIVER. A GREAT RUNNING TRAIL.
      • SEOUL HAS GREAT NIGHTLIFE, MARKETS, SIGHTSEEING, TRADITION, SHOPPING AND MUCH MORE
    • DOWNTOWN 100K RACE X SITE X OLYMPIC PARK HOTEL < AIRPORT HAN RIVER SEOUL SUBWAY MAP
    • RUNNING IS VERY POPULAR IN KOREA. ULTRAS ALSO. MOST 100KM RACES HAVE OVER 600 PARTICIPANTS EVERY WEEKEND!
    • TWO OF THE BIGGEST MARATHONS ARE CHUNCHEON AND DONG A (SEOUL INTERNATIONAL MARATHON). THEY HAVE FIELDS OF 50-60,000 AND EVERY WEEKEND THERE ARE DOZENS OF RACES ACROSS KOREA. HERE IS A GOOD READ ABOUT RUNNING IN KOREA
    • HWANG, YOUNG CHO WINNER OF 1992 OLYMPIC MARATHON KOREA’S FAMOUS RUNNING TRADITION SOHN, GI CHON WINNER OF THE 1936 MARATHON CONTROVERSY – WON FOR JAPAN WHICH AT THE TIME CONTROLLED KOREA LEE, BONG JU WINNER OF BOSTON 1996 OLYMPIC SILVER MEDALIST
    • Maraton was a box office hit. The real life story of a Cho Won who had severe autism yet completed the Chuncheon marathon and set a record for 17 year olds. (2:54 min.)
    • THE WORLD CUP 100 K WILL BE HELD AT MISARI – EAST OF SEOUL. A RESERVOIR WHERE THE 1988 OLYMPIC CANOE AND KAYAK EVENTS TOOK PLACE. SUPER FLAT, 10X10KM. A LAP AROUND THE RESERVOIR IS 5K BUT WITH A SNAKE PATTERN, MAKES 10KM. LOTS OF RUNNING ROOM AND WELL LIT. I’VE RUN A 50K HERE AND RECOMMEND IT.
    • ACCOMMODATION WILL BE AT THE OLYMPIC PARK HOTEL. IT IS LOCATED ABOUT 20 MIN. FROM THE RACE SITE. NICE AREA. IT IS BESIDE OLYMPIC PARK WITH MANY SITES TO SEE. ALSO ON A BEAUTIFUL LAKE. CENTRAL AND A GOOD PLACE TO START A TOUR OF SEOUL. SHUTTLE BUSES FROM INCHEON AIRPORT ARE 8,000 WON / $8 U.S.
    • I have run quite a few ultras in Korea. Generally they are run at night and are survival runs (with pack and few aid stations). Koreans love ultras, especially 100ks. I’ve enjoyed many hours in their jovial company. Drinking “maekoli” after training (a mild , milky rice wine), sharing stories and running tips. Please see KUMF and in particular their bulletin board for all info. About the 100k. I also recommend watching the video on the site. Gives you a great picture of ultra running in Korea.
