Speaker’s Notes:It’s going to be held for the first time ever at the Boy Scouts of America’s newest High Adventure Base, the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve. We’ll call it “the Summit” from here on out.More than 40,000 Scouts and Scouters will explore the Summit’s brand new world-class facilities, in the heart of one of nature’s greatest playgrounds.The Jamboree is how we continue the Scouting Movement. Once every four years, we bring generations together through all of the best of Scouting, all in one place. Do not miss this chance to be part of history …
Speaker’s Notes:This jamboree isn’t just “in the mountains”; it’s 10,000 acres of forest, attached to 70,000 more acres of federally protected National River Area. The Summit sits in the middle of one of the most amazing outdoor recreation centers on earth, the New River Gorge in West Virginia.
Speaker’s Notes: Villages are where participants will live. Each village has 4 subcamps with around 2,000 participants each. Village E is for staff and Venturers and International Scouts will stay in Village F (not pictured). The Summit Center, including Action Point, is where visitors will come to experience the jamboree with participants. Here, they'll get a taste of what the jamboree is all about.

Speaker’s Notes:Our tradition of the jamboree goes deeply back into what it means to be a Scout.For over 75 years, the national Scout jamboree has brought members from every Council together to share the bond that is Scouting.Each jamboree, we grow in numbers and in adventure, adding more and more activities for Scouts to turn into memories.Now, all of us together are writing a new chapter in our history. For the first time ever, the national Scout jamboree will have a permanent home. And wait until you see what home is going to look like …
Speaker’s Notes:For the first time ever, Venturing will be part of the national Scout jamboree. As we move ahead into the next century of Scouting, Venturers will be right along side the Scouts.Visitors will come to Summit Center where they can sample a lot of the activities offered to jamboree participants. In the 10,000 acres beyond that, only participants will have access.The Summit’s ‘basecamps’ will be activity-specific. For example, there’s a Mountain Biking basecamp, a Canopy Tour basecamp, and a water sports basecamp, to name a few.Scouts and Venturers will have the chance for 2 half-day sessions of an in-depth activity experience. They will schedule those activities online in advance of the Jamboree. There will also be opportunities to participate in unscheduled elective activities, with elective programs being a more introductory offering in that activity area.Can’t make it for the entire jamboree? Now for the first time ever, staff only can register for ½ the jambo. We’ve split the registration into either the full jamboree, or you can choose one of two half-sessions.
Speaker’s Notes:The national Scout jamboree inspires the best in us ... as friends, as citizens, and as Scouts.Over the course of the jamboree, you’ll be transformed, and you’ll see that transformation in the Scouts around you, too.We’ve built in a special Jamboree Day of Service, a place to take all that you’re learning about your best self during the jambo, and focus it into something you can immediately apply to the world at large.This jamboree, coming in summer 2013, is taking Scouting into it’s next century. It sincerely will be the best of adventure alongside the best of our character. What happens there will be truly a remarkable moment in Scouting.And when you go through these 10 days, you will arrive at the other side transformed. Years from now, you’ll be able to tell future generations of Scouts, “I was there.”There’s almost no end to the activities at the Summit. And staff will have their hands in all of it. It’s a truly incredible opportunity to be on the cutting edge of the BSA.All of your favorite jamboree traditions from patch trading to pioneering will be on hand at the Summit. We’re moving forward … way forward … but we’re bringing the best along with us …
Speaker’s Notes:With everything that you’ve learned about the 2013 National Scout Jamboree, it’s possible that you’re left with just one question: “Where do I sign up?”Registration is done electronically. Go online to bsajamboree.org and click on the Jamboree Registration banner.From there, you’ll just need to link your BSA membership to your Summit account. You need your last name, date of birth, and member ID number.Upon completion of the application, print the “Request to Attend Form”. Parents, fill that out and take it to your local council to get the ball officially rolling!
Speaker’s Notes:The jamboree is a life-changing event, and this one is going to be really big. This is history in the making.Traditions are a huge part of who we are, and the Jamboree may be the biggest tradition in all of Scouting.Be a part of the history of Scouting Movement.
