  • 2. Math Vocabulary • Fraction: Part of a whole (part/whole) • Numerator: Top number of a fraction – the part • Denominator: Bottom number of a fraction – the whole • Equivalent Fractions: Fractions that name the same part of the whole.

  • 4. Practice • Find as many fractions as you can that are equal to ¾. Use the fractions strip. • Find 2 equivalent fractions to 6/8. Use the fractions strip.
  • 5. Patterns (think multiplication) 1/2 = 2/4= 4/8 • What do you notice about the numerators? • What do you notice about the denominators?
  • 6. More Practice • What fraction is equivalent to 4/6? – Divide the numerator and the denominator by a common factor. (Hint: 4 and 6 are both even.) – Multiply the numerator and the denominator by the same number. (Hint: try 2.) • What fraction is equivalent to 5/10? Divide numerator and denominator to find out. • 3/4 = 6/?
