  • 3. INTRODUCTION
    • Motivation: motivation is the force that drives a person to action.
    • Need hierarchy theory: it has been formulated by Abraham H. maslow.
    • IT present in all indivisuals
    • Once that need satisfied the next strongest need Arise
    • IT aims at satisfying need in order of hierarchy,starting lower level need to higher level need
    • The potency or the strength of a particular need depends upon each individuals set of prioprities.

    • Prime factor in motivation of people at work is to urge to fulfil needs.
    • Human needs from a particulrs hierarchy
    • Man is wanting animal
    • Unsatisfied need regulate an individual behaviour
    • Each higher level needs emerge before the lower level need is completely satisfied

HIGHER ORDER OF NEED LOWER ORDER OF NEED OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHALLENGE AND INNOVATIVE JOBS IMPORTANT AND PRESTIGIOUS JOB POSITION AND LOCATIONS HERMONIOUS WORKING RELATION MONEY AND FRINGE BENEFIT AND RETIREMENT BENEFIT WORK PLACE CONDITION AND SALARY
  • 7. Critical analysis
    • However the theory is widely criticised for the following reasons
    • Needs are not only the determinant of behavior
    • Need recognisation and fulfilment do not always follow the specific sequence or hierarchical order
    • No definite evidence that once a need is satisfied its losses its motivating force.
    • Different people may have different level of hierarchy.
