INTRODUCTION• Home Science education is the Philosophy of “home and family”• Its aim is to provide intellectual, cultural, moral, aesthetic, vocational, utilitarian, economic and social values not only to the individual but whole society• health, first aid and home nursing as well as foods, nutrition and cookery are part of their syllabus
MATERIALS AND METHOD• Questionnaire was formulated with questions relating to socio-economic background, dietary pattern, and nutritional knowledge.• Total 80 Girls studying in third year degree class of B. Sc. Home Science were selected• Hemoglobin estimation was done by Sahli’s hemometer
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION• 37.5 % joint family while 62.5 % nuclear family.• 47.2 % backward class and 52.7 % higher class• 36.1 % rural and 63.8 % urban area.

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION• The objective of the study was to see the role of home science education in imparting knowledge of foods , nutrition and cookery• The ultimate goal of every education is to impart the students skill based, value oriented and entrepreneurial knowledge which gives them healthy, wealthy and happy life• More study is needed in this direction as well as the role of home science education in personality and overall development of a person.
