  • We start with a script -- which is more of a storyboard that is used to write your dialogue and also to plan your movements and navigation accordingly around the product menus
  • Then record narration on Audacity

  • Wistia.com is the one that I use they have plans starting at $39/month for 400 plays but no branding of player but some very sophisticated tracking
  • This is Kaltura’s embedding tool is free for up to 10 GB has Wordpress and various other plug ins:
  • Best sites: VideoJug.com, 5min.com, and Viddler.com -- the Backup Exec video got 700 views from these three sites in two weeks alone

  • Video = has to be visually interesting
    • Voltage (“email encryption”) was just static screens
    • Altiris workflow has a lot of action, activity, and jumping around
    • Viewers can hit pause/rewind if they want to slow things down
  • YouTube matters. A lot.
    • Still the best place to showcase videos
    • A third of my total views are there (the rest are spread among 20 other sites)
    • Two best-viewed Symantec videos:
      • Veritas Backup Exec (>6600 in 6 months!)
      • Altiris Workflow (3100 in 15 months)
  • Build audience slowly
    • And you will keep them longer, too
    • It isn’t always about “going viral”
    • Need regular infusions of new content, just like a magazine or newspaper
