  3. 3. Biometric DeviceBiometrics (or biometricauthentication) refers tothe identification of humansby their characteristics ortraits.Computer science, biometrics to be specific, isused as a form ofidentification and accesscontrol. It is also used toidentify individuals in groupsthat are under surveillance.
  4. 4. Biometric IdentifiersBiometric identifiers are the distinctive, measurablecharacteristics used to label and describeindividuals. The two categories of biometricidentifiers include physiological and behavioralcharacteristics. A biometric would identify by ones➲voice➲DNA➲hand print➲behavior.
  5. 5. Types Of Biometric Device Fingerprint Scanner Retinal/Iris Scanner Facial Scanner Hand Geometry Voice print DNA Fingerprint Deep Tissue Illumination Keystroke Pattern
  6. 6. Danger to owner of secured itemsWhen thieves cannot get access to secure properties, there is a chance that the thieves will stalk and assaultthe property owner to gain access. If the item is securedwith a biometric device, the damage to the owner couldbe irreversible, and potentially cost more than thesecured property. For example, in 2005, Malaysian carthieves cut off the finger of a Mercedes-Benz S-Classowner when attempting to steal the car.
  7. 7. Use of Biometric DevicesBiometric devices are used all over the world likeIndia,Canada, Australia etc. In Pakistan Biometricdevices are also being used in several areas of life.➲Educational Institute➲Hospital➲Offices Libraries➲Shopping Malls➲Housing societies etc.
  8. 8. How Biometric devices Work➲ Biometrics is a word that comes from two Greek words bios, which means life, and metron, which means measure. Biometrics then are a measure of some aspect of life. A biometric device uses physical or behavioral traits and identifies people with those traits. In reality, a biometric devices scans the aspect of life – such as a fingerprint or voice pattern – and extracts data from it which it stores and then uses to compare the next time you want to access whatever the biometric device is keeping secure.
  9. 9. Card SwappingSeveral Authorities likeshopping Mall, housingauthorities and hostels areusing card scanner, thesescanner provide themsufficient information aboutthe existing individual andenables registration for thenew ones, This act reducethe probability of theft androbbery but thisInformation has to be keptsave and secure.
  10. 10. Fingerprint ScannerIts Very difficult to keepand maintain hard data aboutthe attendance of individualin offices, Some officesCalculate there employeessalaries . Finger printscanner enables us to keepincoming and outgoingtimings of Individuals. Thesedevices are often attachwith software’s whichprepare evaluation reports itself.
  11. 11. Security policySome people claim thatpersonal data will be usedbecause when these devicesattach with software’scontain several informationabout individual and sometime very personalinformation, so there mustbe security policy to keepthe data safe and secure
  12. 12. Effects on SocietyThese devices effect positively on society theyreduce human efforts and create a sense ofsynchronization and they provide easy reports toevaluate businesses and individuals.
