  • Music Freelance World Week 4
  • Online Profile As mentioned in previous weeks a freelance musician has to: •Organise their own work •Control/create their own marketing •Ensure they are gaining enough work to survive •Be responsible for their own business
  • Unique Selling Point We have previously talk about USP’s and even though freelance is not as formal as some businesses, you will need to try to make your service appear unique in some way. In addition to being unique, you need to first ensure that you are using effectively all the common marketing tools.
  • What are the options for online marketing? Non- Music Specific - Social Networks, Mailing Lists (Email) Specific Music – Starnow, Musicteachers, Reverbnation, Specific to You – Your website/Blog
  • Task Choose one of each of the areas and create a profile as a freelance musician for each. Non- Music Specific - Social Networks, Mailing Lists (Email) Specific Music – Starnow, Musicteachers, Reverbnation, Specific to You – Your website/Blog
  • Self-Development Freelance musicians have to assess their own skills and selfdevelop. This could be within their current role, e.g: a Guitarist learning to play a different technique. Or outside of their normal role, e.g: a Guitarist learning how to play drums to improve their rhythm and give themselves the skills to agree to gigs on a second instrument.
  • Self-Development To do this, you have to: •Recognise your weaknesses •Outline the areas you need to improve upon •Create and action plan with a timescale to achieve these improvements
  • Self Development You may decide you need to: •Enrol on a training course •Attend seminars/conferences •Network with other musicians and share skills
  • Action Plan Create an action plan that shows: •What the need for development is •How you intend to resolve this problem/improve in this area •When you expect to have completed this.
  • Action Plan Template
