  4. 4. OVERVIEW This exhibit consists of two separate works that look at modern life. Temporal State of Being is concerned with the world we have constructed around ourselves, The room you sleep in, the one you eat in or watch a movie in. These are inside the larger room you call home, that might be inside a building that contains it. It’s also the car you drive, the parking garage, the office building you work in. All box-like in form, All forms of modern containment. Who’s Counting looks at the objects we fill our rooms with. The clothing, the forks and knifes, the table the chairs, the computer, the phone, the bed, the towels, the shoes in the closet. It looks at a home that contains less than a 1000 objects. Why show these together? We are interested in the built environment and the human behavior within these confines. We are also curious about what causes people to accumulate “things”. How some live spare, almost monistic lives, while others fill every inch of their homes with things. frost art museum - miami http://thefrost.fiu.edu/exhibitions.htm exhibition may 25th - september 18th davidandhijin.comSaturday, June 25, 2011
  5. 5. TEMPORAL STATE OF BEING 3 channel video - duration approx. 4minutes, continuously looped. This installation explores the idea that twenty-first century life is lived, to a surprising degree, in a context of boxes of our own making. Have we lost a sense of the boundlessness and seamlessness of space and time, because of the pervasively rectangular environments and of everyday life? How does the "boxiness" of our civilized environment affect the way we see, feel and experience the world? Temporal State of Being explores these themes via a media installation that engages the concept of a box in many ways, at multiple levels. The viewer will visit a box - the installation itself; watch video on box shaped monitors; see and hear respondents descriptions of how boxes are intertwined into daily life. frost art museum - miami http://thefrost.fiu.edu/exhibitions.htm exhibition may 25th - september 18th davidandhijin.comSaturday, June 25, 2011

  7. 7. WHO’S COUNTING 16 color prints - approx. size - 4’ x 2’ - 7” This is a series of images that look at the objects we have in our homes. Everything from how many teaspoons are in the drawer, to the number of pillows on the bed. If it’s not attached to the wall it’s counted as an object. Room by room we look at how many objects we own. How many do things do you have in your home? The number may surprise you. frost art museum - miami http://thefrost.fiu.edu/exhibitions.htm exhibition may 25th - september 18th davidandhijin.comSaturday, June 25, 2011
