Estonian Maritime Museum Anton Mullo 12a
Estonian Maritime Museum is located in the canon tower Fat Margareeta that is a part of the medieval town wall. On the four storeys of the museum an overview of the history of Estonian maritime and fishing history is given – one can study the details of ship and boat building; learn about Estonian harbours, means of navigation on ships and the lighthouses there.
In addition to permanent exposition temporary expositions are organized on the first floor. In the closed yard of the tower an open air exposition is displayed. The roof of the tower offers a superb view at Old Town and the Gulf of Tallinn.
Mine Museum
Various mines form Pre-WW I fortress mines to contemporary training mines are exposed at the museum. Among the exhibits mines of German, Russian, Finnish, British, French and Estonian origin can be seen, but one can also get acquainted with stories of finding individual mines and taking them to the museum. The mines have come from coast fishermen, divers and the marines having participated in minesweeping operations, some mines have been gifted to the museum or exchanged with the Military Museum of Finland in Turu.
Icebreaker “SUUR TÕLL”
The icebreaker “Suur Tõll” was constructed in 1914 in Stettin (Szczecin) and it is the only steam boat in Estonia and the Baltic countries that has preserved from the pre-war period of independence. All main engines, original room plan and the late-Jugendstil poop rooms of the vessel have preserved. The working conditions of stokers and engine operators can be seen and an overview of the colourful history of the steamer is given on board the ship.
Submarine “LEMBIT”
Submarine “Lembit” is constructed in England on request of the Republic of Estonia in 1936 and it is the only pre-WW II warship that has preserved from the Estonian and the entire Baltic navy. “The Lembit”, a mine trawler equipped with pre-war torpedo armament, is a technological monument of international importance.
Kasmu Sea Museum
The museum is located in a tsarist period cordon building and is dedicated to the history of this legendary village of captains. The exhibits tell about all areas related to the sea (navigation, fishing, smuggling, nature, photo, art, border guarding). Museum hours on two topics are organised for children: the village of captains and the Viking era. Village conferences (in July the Sea Day, in the beginning of August the international Viking Camp) but also concerts and exhibitions are held.
