Diff Second Earthquake Hits Indonesia - Presentation Transcript

      Second earthquake hits Indonesia
A second earthquake has hit Indonesia in south-east Asia just one day after a strong tremor caused hundreds of buildings to collapse.
Officials estimate that the first quake killed at least 770 people and left thousands homeless.
The city of Padang, which is very close to the coast, is among the areas hardest hit on the island of Sumatra.
Rescuers fear thousands more people could be trapped in the rubble because so many buildings have been destroyed.
These quakes came just a few hours after a tsunami from a separate earthquake killed more than 100 people in the South Pacific.
Experts don't think that the disasters are connected to one another.
At the time a tsunami watch was issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center following the first tremor, which measured 7.6 on the Richter scale. The warning was later lifted.
