    • KNOW WHEN AND WHY A SLUMP TEST IS CARRIED OUT
  • 3. OBJECTIVES
    • DETAILS
    • TO KNOW SLUMP CLASS OF CONCRETE SAMPLE
    • KNOW DIMENSIONS OF SLUMP CONE
    • KNOW HOW TO CARRY OUT A SLUMP TEST
  • 4. TOOLS NEEDED
    • Slump cone and tamping rod

  • 9. TOOLS NEEDED
    • CONCRETE
  • 10. WHAT IS A SLUMP TEST?
    • A SLUMP TEST IS A TEST OF THE WORKABILITY OF CONCRETE
  • 11. WORKABILITY OF CONCRETE
    • THE WORKABILITY OF CONCRETE IS AFFECTED BY THE AMOUNT OF WATER IN THE MIX
    • TOO MUCH WATER CAN MAKE CONCRETE WEAK
    • NOT ENOUGH CONCRETE CAN MAKE THE CONCRETE TOO HARD TO WORK WITH
  • 12. WHEN IS A SLUMP TEST CARRIED OUT?
    • A SLUMP TEST IS CARRIED OUT ON SITE BEFORE THE CONCRETE IS POURED IN PLACE . A SAMPLE IS TAKEN FROM THE LORRY WHEN IT ARRIVES ON SITE.
  • 13. PROCEDURE
    • Place the cone on a level waterproof base
    • Place your feet on the holding down lugs
    • Place 75mm of concrete in the cone and tamp 25times
    • Repeat this action 3 more times until the cone is full and screed off the top
  • 14. PROCEDURE
    • Gently lift cone from the concrete
    • Area cone beside concrete and put tamping rod across the top of the cone
    • Measure down from bottom of tamping rod to top of concrete
    • The measurement is the slump of the concrete
  • 15. AVERAGE SLUMPS MEDIUM/HIGH 100-150 S3 MEDIUM 50-90 S2 LOW 10-40 S1 WORKABILITY SLUMP RANGE(MM) SLUMP CLASS
