My Team Biography So Far...

  1. 1. My TEAM Biography so far… By Dan Art I have already learned so much from TEAM…can’t wait to learn even more!
  2. 2. Introduction… <ul><li>My name is Dan Art </li></ul><ul><li>I am a math teacher at Oceanside Middle School. </li></ul><ul><li>As a new teacher, I am very excited to be starting my career as an educator with all the knowledge I am learning from TEAM. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Life Before TEAM <ul><li>Computers have been part of my life for as long as I can remember… </li></ul><ul><li>- My dad is the CIO (Chief Information Officer) at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, where he is in charge of computers for the entire hospital </li></ul><ul><li>- My brother has always been really good at computers and technology. He now works for Symantec Norton Antivirus where he controls the security for large companies around the world </li></ul>
  4. 4. Life Before TEAM <ul><li>Even with this technological atmosphere I never had any interest in computers, maybe because it was almost overkill. </li></ul><ul><li>It wasn’t until I got to college that my interest in computers and technology really started…and brought me to TEAM. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Currently… <ul><li>I am in my third semester at TEAM and loving every minute of it. </li></ul><ul><li>I have discovered a passion for computers and technology that wasn’t there before. </li></ul><ul><li>TEAM is helping me build the bridge between my own interest in technology and finding ways to implement technology into my teaching to benefit my students. </li></ul>

Collaboration <ul><li>Transitions: Hugo, Melissa, Scott, Ryan, and myself </li></ul><ul><li>Research has shown that the hardest years on students are: </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Transition from elementary to middle school, & </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Transition from middle to high school </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><li>Transitions was started originally by Melissa, Adam and Hugo during their Fall 2006 semester where they developed a PowerPoint & a video of their vision. </li></ul><ul><li>When Scott, Ryan, and I joined TEAM in the Spring 2007 Transitions evolved into the very beginnings of an interactive website that students and parents could go to for help, answers, and information. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>http://eev3.liu.edu/hh0608/transitions/index.html </li></ul></ul>

Successes in TEAM so far… <ul><li>I have had many successes in TEAM so far: </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Learning about great technologies (web 2.0 tools) </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Winning the Photo Contest in my Summer 2007 - Nature Photography course </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Meeting inspiring Long Island teachers who are in TEAM to become the best teachers they can be! </li></ul></ul></ul>

My Biggest Success in TEAM so far… <ul><li>My biggest success in TEAM so far has to be the teacher web page I developed this summer. </li></ul><ul><li>Thanks to Ellen and Corinne (who introduced Wikispaces to me) I created a space on Wikispaces called MrArt. </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>My space has: </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Separate pages for each class </li></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Discussion boards - where students can communicate with each other and me </li></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Chat with Mr. Art feature – where students can instant message me a question that can’t wait till the next day of school </li></ul></ul></ul></ul>

My Biggest Success in TEAM so far… <ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Video Tutorials - on how to use Mr. Art’s Teacher Web Page more effectively </li></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Calendar – an embedded calendar of important class and school events </li></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Helpful Links </li></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>And because it is a wiki, it is very easy to maintain and is growing everyday </li></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Everyone at Oceanside Middle School seems to really like it, including my supervisor and the principal.
