  • It’s midway through earnings season and 61 companies (as of 5 pm today) have produced XBRL statements under the SEC mandate for reporting periods ending after June 15.The bad news is few if any issuer websites are giving shareholders more than a basic view of XBRL statements. Many IROs have a view that more sophisticated XBRL tools on IR websiteswould only benefit retail investors only.
  • 75% of portfolio managers use weekly if not daily Analysts, Journalists, and retail investors are active consumers of information via IR websitesThere is a common misconception that institutional investors don’t use company websites. The feeling is they get all their information from proprietary systems. This has never been the case AND with the fallout in investment banking many of these investors/analysts are now working for themselves or small boutique firms with less resources.
  • 67 % of global online population use social networks and blogsThe social web is also impacting financial media.
  • Seeking Alpha 4M unique users/month - 25% are institutional investorsStock Twits has around 85,000 users and adding 500 a day. Linked to whale wisdom (example of how much data is available online) – stocktwits now available through bloomberg as well. Wikinvest – part of a new wave of contributor driven communities. New data platform is very impressive
