3. Danny Shabat: Ohel Shalom
Ohel Shalom began in 1987 as a Sephardic Jewish
community in the Chicago, Illinois, area named
Shaare Mizrah. Its leader, Rabbi Daniel Raccah,
provided his congregation with guidance and
support, and it quickly grew and expanded its
presence. In 2005, Shaare Mizrah expanded into a
new building and changed its name to Ohel Shalom
Torah Center to reflect its increasingly broad social
support mission.
4. Danny Shabat: Ohel Shalom
Ohel Shalom provides a wide range of services to
the Chicago Jewish community. In addition to
Tefillah and Shabbat services, regular studies from
the Torah, and an open Beit Midrash program
Sunday through Thursday, Ohel Shalom has a
vibrant Kiruv, or outreach program, to assist the
disadvantaged, a Simcha hall available for events,
and much more. The organization continues to be a
vital part of Chicago's Jewish landscape today and
into the future.
