Why did the County get involved?

2009-Line cut in Duluth. Communications
blackout. No 911, no cellphones, no land lines, no Emergency Alert, no credit cards
2008-Local business quoted $600,000
for T1 installation. Local business refused T1 service necessary for MNDOT contract
200X-Fishing license sales now require broadband connection
Local government shouldn’t be involved in telecommunications
2007-Ham Lake Fire-No bandwidth
available for emergency cell service, not enough lines to use reverse-911 for evacuations
2000-Statewide move to Enhanced 911-
7 second delay added to all 911 calls
1999-Blowdown-only 23 lines
available up the trail, all busy all the time
1994-Tourism sector needs internet,
long-distance charges prohibitive, stifled growth.
