King Solomon tells us that he was born like any other child of his time. Unlike the other people of his time he turned to the Lord in prayer, a prayer not out of selfishness but a prayer which asked for the wisdom to rule his people (2 Chr. 1:8-10). Solomon preferred wisdom to gold and silver which in worldly thinking would have been surprising. The world values gold and silver and its acquisition at any cost. Worldly people only consider the temporal world but Solomon turned his eyes to the eternal world.
