    Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Wisdom 7:7-11 - Presentation Transcript

    1. Wisdom is better than gold. All good comes with her The Holy Bible : Revised Standard Version Second Catholic edition (2006), with the ecclesiastical approval of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Thomas Nelson Publishing for Ignatius Press.
      •  7  Therefore I prayed, and understanding was given to me;
      • I called upon God, and the spirit of wisdom came to me.
      • 8 I preferred her to scepters and thrones, and I accounted wealth as nothing in comparison with her.
      • 9 Neither did I liken to her any priceless gem, because all gold is but a little sand in her sight,
      • and silver will be accounted as clay before her.
      • 10 I loved her more than health and beauty, and I chose to have her rather than light, because her radiance never ceases.
      • 11 All good things came to me along with her, and in her hands uncounted wealth.

      • King Solomon tells us that he was born like any other child of his time.
      • Unlike the other people of his time he turned to the Lord in prayer, a prayer not out of selfishness but a prayer which asked for the wisdom to rule his people (2 Chr. 1:8-10).
      • Solomon preferred wisdom to gold and silver which in worldly thinking would have been surprising.
      • The world values gold and silver and its acquisition at any cost.
      • Worldly people only consider the temporal world but Solomon turned his eyes to the eternal world.
