Third Sunday of Advent – Psalm (Isaiah 12:2-6) - Presentation Transcript
Cry out with joy and gladness: for among you is the great and Holy One of Israel.
2 “ Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.”
3 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.
4 And you will say in that day: “Give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name; make known his deeds among the nations, proclaim that his name is exalted.
5 “ Sing praises to the LORD, for he has done gloriously; let this be known in all the earth.
6 Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.”
The Holy Bible : Revised Standard Version Second Catholic edition (2006), with the ecclesiastical approval of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Thomas Nelson Publishing for Ignatius Press.
The people of Israel will thank the Lord and call on each other to let the world know what God has done for them.
In so doing people everywhere will know of his goodness and that he always keeps his promises.
At the time Isaiah wrote chapter 12 the Assyrian Empire, which was a threat to Israel and particularly to Judah had fallen and thus the threat no longer existed.
The Holy One of Israel is coming and they should be joyful.
