    1. I am the Alpha and the Omega
      •  5  and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the first-born of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood
      •  6  and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
      •  7  Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, every one who pierced him; and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.
      • 8  “ I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

    2. 1: 5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead and ruler of the kings of the earth.
      • Christ’s resurrection, His triumph over death, provides the assurance that death is not the end for the faithful .
      • Christ died at the hands of the temporary rulers of earth but through his resurrection Christ will rule over them eternally.
      • Submit to Christ NOT to lesser earthly rulers (Colossians 2: 20 ).
    3. the faithful witness , the first-born of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth.
      • The three titles call to mind the passion, the resurrection, and the exaltation of Christ.
      • Christ was the Father’s witness during his ministry because he revealed the Father perfectly (Jn 3:11, 32) and crowned this testimony by the sacrifice of his life (Jn 18: 37 ; 1 Tm 6: 13 ).
      • Jesus, the first permanently resurrected, guarantees that the era of the resurrection of the dead is establish in in his person (1 Cor 15: 20 ; Col 1: 18 ).
      • The glorification of Christ, because of his resurrection, grants him all power over all creation
      • Psalm 89: 27 And I will make him the first-born, the highest of the kings of the earth.
