Second Sunday in Ordinary Time – Isaiah 62:1-5 - Presentation Transcript

    1. Isaiah 62:1-5 The Bridegroom rejoices in this bride.
      • 1 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until her vindication goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a burning torch.
      • 2 The nations shall see your vindication, and all the kings your glory; and you shall be called by a new name which the mouth of the LORD will give.
      • 3 You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the
      • LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
      • 4 You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate; but you shall be called My delight is in her, and your land Married; for the LORD delights in you, and your land shall be married.
      • 5 For as a young man marries a virgin, so shall your sons marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.
The Holy Bible : Revised Standard Version Second Catholic edition (2006), with the ecclesiastical approval of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Thomas Nelson Publishing for Ignatius Press.
      • In this psalm we hear the Lord (God the Father), tell about his delight in Jerusalem being restored.
      • When they were in Babylon they felt forsaken and desolate.
      • The city will take on a new relationship with God, that of a bridegroom and his city, the bride.
      • Jerusalem will be named Hephzibah (“My delight is in her”) and Beulah (“Married one”).
      • “ Your land married,” the land of Israel will take on the marriage relationship with the God who delights in his bride.
      • The words “so will your sons marry you” (Jerusalem) imply that people again will live in Jerusalem and God will be happy about them returning to him as a bride.
