Mk 9:38-43, 45, 47-48 A stranger worked miracles in your name! But whoever is not against us is for us. If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off.
38 John said to him, “Teacher, we saw a man casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he was not following us.”
39 But Jesus said, “Do not forbid him; for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon after to speak evil of me.
40 For he that is not against us is for us.
41 For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ, will by no means lose his reward.
42 “ Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone was hung round his neck and he were thrown into the sea.
43 And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, to the unquenchable fire.
45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell.
47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell,
48 where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.

9: 38-41 Another Exorcist
The disciples were jealous of a man who healed in Jesus’ name because they were more concerned with their own group’s position than in helping to free those troubled by demons.
People who are on Jesus’ side have the same goal of building up the Kingdom of God.
They should not let differences interfere with this goal.
Those who share a common faith in Christ should cooperate.
People don’t have to be just like us to be following Jesus.
Ambition
Faith applies to what we do individually and as members of our Church Community.
Our thoughts and actions must be motivated by love (1 Corinthians 13), and we must be careful about judging others (Matthew 7: 1-5 ; Romans 14: 1 –15: 4 ).
However, we also have a responsibility to confront flagrant sin within the church (1 Corinthians 5: 12-13 ).
Just like the Apostles we cannot allow our personal ambitions to get in the way of building up the kingdom of God.
