Fourth Sunday of Advent – Micah 5:1-4 - Presentation Transcript
From you shall come forth the ruler in Israel
1 Now you are walled about with a wall; siege is laid against us; with a rod they strike upon the cheek of the ruler of Israel.
2 But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient days.
3 Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she who has labor pains has brought forth; then the rest of his brethren shall
return to the people of Israel.
4 And he shall stand and feed his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth.
5 And this shall be peace, when the Assyrian comes into our land and tread upon our soil, that we will raise against him seven shepherds and eight princes of men;

Once again with total accuracy God speaks through the prophet Micah about the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
Did you notice the reading tells us the Messiah would come from Bethlehem (v2)?
The coming Messiah will come to feed his flock (v. 4).
The one who is to come will “be ruler in Israel” (v. 2).
He will also bring peace (v.5).
This statement reminds us of John 14.27, Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
Now consider the fact that this reading from Micah was written 700 years prior to the birth of Jesus.
