    Fourth Sunday of Advent – Hebrews 10:5-10 - Presentation Transcript

    1. Behold, I come to do your will.
      • 4 For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.
      •  5  Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body you have prepared for me;
      • 6 in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure.
      • 7 Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,’ as it is written of me in the roll of the book.”
      • 8 When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law),
      • 9 then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He abolishes the first in order to establish the second.
      • 10 And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
      The Holy Bible : Revised Standard Version Second Catholic edition (2006), with the ecclesiastical approval of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Thomas Nelson Publishing for Ignatius Press.
      • In reading this passage don’t you get the feeling that this is a conversation between the Father and the Son on the eve preceding Jesus birth in Bethlehem?
      • It was God who prepared a body for all of us.
      • As God himself said in Jer. 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you;
      • Even the first Adam didn’t become a living soul until God gave him the breath of life.
      • Now the second Adam, the human part of Jesus, who was born in Bethlehem, will have the breath of life given to him by the Father.
      • Now the first sacrificial system is gone and has been replaced by the New Covenant’s Perfect sacrifice, Jesus.
