    • SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE, BUILDING AND DESIGN THE DESIGN SCHOOL FOUNDATION IN NATURAL BUILD ENVIRONMENT NAME: Mak Mun Choon STUDENT ID NO: 0314928 LECTURER: Ms Pang Chia Yee SUBJECT: SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY ASSIGNMENT: JOURNAL SUBMISSION DATE: 17thDecember 2013
    • Journal 1 This lesson is talk about attitudes. Attitudes are positive or negative evaluations of objects of thoughts. Object of thoughts may include social issues, groups, institutions, consumer products, and people. There are 3 componentscognitive, affective, and behavioral. It teaches me about the cognitive component like a person belief and idea. Then, the affective component is like how the person emotion and feeling. Last is about the behavioral component, it is about a person predispositions to act. That lesson also teaches about theory of attitude change-learning. That is evaluative conditioning, operant conditioning, and observational learning. It talked about a person or animals will learn and become smarter after gone through the things with several time. For example, an experiment about they put a mouse in a skinner box and got a switch inside, when the mouse press it, will give out some food. In first time the mouse didn’t realize but when it press the first time, the mouse learn when press it, got food come out. After more times, the mouse has known if press the switch got food come out. Second experiment is the test of electric. The mouse wouldn’t touch the switch because if it press it, the mouse will get electric shock, it feel pain so it learn from the pain. So, today lecture is quiet interesting and it let me know about the learning step of the human and animals, it increases my knowledge and more about how I can learn something.
    • Journal 2 Today class is talk about conformity and behaviour. Conformity is a type of social influence involving a change in belief or behaviour in order to fit in with a group. This change is in response to real or imagined involving the pressure of social norms or expectations group pressure. Then, our lecturer shows us a video about the Zimbardo’s Prison experiment. This experiment about yielding to others called obedience. It is maintaining total control, social rolesthe power of situations and situation appropriate behavior. The causes of obedience are the emotional distance of the victimand closeness and legitimacy of the authority. Then, is the behavior in groups, it is about influence by others people. For example, if someone in trouble, most of the people wouldn’t help because they think there is not of their business. If one of them go to help, the others also go to help. Through this lesson, I learn that the benefit of groups, team of people is better than one, and I also learn the effect of the group of people. But we live in a same place, I think we should help each other when one of them in trouble although we unable to help, at least we shout for help. This is a good lesson, I feel I should be helpful when got people in trouble.
