What is “E-Rate”?• According to the Universal Service Administrative Company (2010), “E- Rate”: – Provides discounts to schools and libraries – Allows schools to obtain affordable telecommunications and Internet access – http://www.usac.org/sl/about/overview- program.aspx
How it Works• Funding is requested under four categories – Telecommunications services – Internet access – Internal connections – Basic maintenance of internal connections
Discounts• Depend on –the level of poverty –The urban/rural status of the population served –Range from 20% to 90% of the costs of eligible services
Application• Applicants must provide additional resources to utilize the connectivity funded by the Schools and Libraries Program –End-user equipment (computers, telephones) –Software Agenda –Professional development
Clear Creek ISD• District Technology Plan – Establish clear goals and strategies for using telecommunications and information technology – Have a professional development strategy to ensure staff knows how to use new technologies – CCISD Technology Plan E-Rate Definition
CCISD Evaluation Strategy– Include an assessment of the telecommunication services, hardware, and software– Include an evaluation process to monitor goals and make mid-course corrections in response to new developments
