The bridge is a lovely shade of "International Orange," not really gold. It was selected for the way it blends with the natural elements surrounding it. The U.S. Navy wanted to paint it black with yellow stripes to be sure it was seen by passing ships! The Golden Gate required the tallest towers, the longest, thickest cables, and the largest underwater foundation piers ever built.

Alcatraz is a smaller island located in the middle of San Francisco Bay . It was a lighthouse , then a military fortification, then a military prison with the highest security in US. The worst criminals were sent there

Because the cold water and strong sea currents, Alcatraz was an ideal location for a prison. During its 29 years of operation, no prisoners successfully escaped. 37 prisoners were involved in 14 attempts, 2 men trying twice; 7 were shot and killed, 2 drowned, and the rest were recaptured. 2 prisoners made it off the island but were returned, one in 1945 and one in 1962.
