      • Empire State College:
      • 17,000+ students enrolled / yr (65% part-time)
      • 35 locations in NYS (17% out-of-state residence, incl.overseas)
      • 157 FT faculty & 800+ adjuncts
      • Ave. student age: 36 for undergrads (41 for grads)
      • 43% of credits attempted were in fully online courses
      • The Library
      • 3 FT librarians, 2 PT evening staff
      • No physical collection – fully online collections
    • 3.
      • Access Issues:
      • Chronology : limited lab & staff availability
      • Geography : locations inaccessible to many
      • Locations : limited seat availability
      • Pedagogy :
        • room discipline & noise can be disruption
        • orient to classroom environment takes time
      • Technology Requirements :
        • Students: none beyond basic computer skills
        • Some labs don’t have proper equipment & tech support
      Phase 1: Computer Lab Broadcasts

      • Chronology : variety of days/times offered (inconvenient overseas?)
      • Geography : access from any internet connection
      • Capacity : nearly unlimited (50)
      • Pedagogy :
        • orient to classroom environment takes time
      • Technology Requirements :
        • Online registration
        • Broadband recommended
        • Audio (speakers/headphones)
        • Reasonably current OS & browser
