  • How?  There are lots of tools built into Facebook that can be used by businesses, other enterprises, and individuals to build engaged communities around their brands.  We'll touch on three today, and mention some others. Fan Pages Ads Search 
  • Fan Pages Profiles are for people, pages are for brands. People "like" the page. Page content now posts to the person's home page. Content includes posts, comments, photos, links to other content on the web, videos, and events. Pages can be suggested to friends. Page administrators can send updates to all fans. Other fan pages and personal profiles can be Tagged in a post (unfortunately not in a comment on a post, although you can include links in a comment). Custom applications can be hosted by a page. Also, custom code can be used to make landing pages, custom contact forms etc. Fans of a page can add the page to their favorites list, which contains links to the pages they like.
  • Ads Ads on Facebook are very inexpensive, easy to target very precisely.
  • Remember the numbers regarding facebook usage: huge numbers of people are communicating about everything under the sun. How can businesses get some insight into those conversations? Search gives us the ability to find out about what people are talking about on Facebook, which we can use for business intelligence or looking for leads.
  • Groups somewhat similar to pages but more oriented to issues or organizations. Places - new Facebook location-based check-in service. Available only on mobile devices Custom programming - customize your fan page with almost anything. (examples) Applications - this requires professional developers, but you can build your own games or other applications to share with your community. Facebook Platform " Facebook Platform enables anyone to build social applications on Facebook and the web. Extend the notion of Liking pages to websites outside of Facebook. Use Facebook credentials to sign in to other services and share information.
