  • 2. Greyhound Racing <ul><li>Greyhounds are raced on a track and chase a lure, normally some type of toy. Before they races they are keeped in kennels. There are many accounts of greyhounds being mistreated, starved and denied proper care. </li></ul><ul><li>  Greyhound racing is a dying industry due to other gambling becoming more popular, and animal protection agencys.  </li></ul>

  • 5. Examples of Abuse <ul><li>Extremely cruel methods such as drowning, shooting, beating are commonplace. Greyhounds have been found mutilated with their ears chopped off to prevent identification of the owner through the ear tattoo. </li></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul>
  • 6. Local Connections <ul><ul><li>In the United States, betters wager billions of dollars on dog races every year. Only four states (California, Maine, Vermont, and Virginia) have banned greyhound racing. These state laws prohibiting racing are largely ineffectual, because federal law does not prohibit the interstate shipment of greyhounds used in racing. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>In October, Governor Schwarzenegger  passed a measure allowing horse track race groups to take a larger cut from wagers to fix up their facilities and offer bigger purses… this would generate about $200 million annually for the horse racing industry </li></ul></ul>
