Management Team of Mercedes-Benz Vans. Introductory Remarks Volker Mornhinweg 3rd-best Operating Result in Our History Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans Mercedes-Benz Vans delivered a solid performance in 2012. We achieved the third-best operating result in our history, and our six percent return on sales made us the most profitable van manufacturer in the business. Despite the difficult market situation, Mercedes-Benz Vans successfully defended its leading position for medium and large vans in Europe and took market share away from its competitors. This demonstrates that the growth strategy involving the launch of the Citan urban delivery vehicle and the “Vans goes global” initiative is effective. Although sales dropped to 252,400 units worldwide (2011: 264,200), revenues totaled €9.1 billi- on and were thus almost as high as in the prior year (2011: €9.2 billion). The division’s EBIT dropped to €541 million (2011: €835 million). Profitable growth continues to be our priority this year, as shown by the following three examples.
