2. Step 1: Ask
Write down one discussion
question about the film, Sir! No,
Sir!
Strive to ask a question that will
prompt discussion and debate—if
there’s something you’re unclear
about, you can ask for clarification,
but you’ll get more out of this
exercise if your question engages
with morality, ethics, politics or
society.
3. Step 2: Trade and Select
1. Sit with your timeline group.
2. Collect your group’s discussion cards.
3. Trade with another group in the class, so that you get a fresh set of
questions.
4. When your group has a new set, look them over.
5. Choose one question to answer as a group through this exercise—preferably,
the one that gets the most debate going!
4. Step 3: Imagining the
Conversation
How would the characters
from O’Brien’s story or
Balaban’s poem answer the
question your group chose?
As a group, write out an
imagined dialogue, in
which at least one character
from this week’s reading
discusses the chosen
question with at least one
person from the film.
What answer would these
characters give? Try to stay
true to their personalities.
