  • There are challenges too!● You have to find your clients or make it easy for them to find you● You may have to collect and manage taxes● You have to manage the project and yourself● Separating work and home can be challenging● You pay for everything (computers, chairs, paperclips ......)● Incoming work is not guaranteed.● You may work on your own quite a bit.● It can be stressful and there can be a lot of uncertainty AppBuilderTV.com
  • What is it really like?● It can be quite a rush being your own boss and having control.● Youll begin to appreciate and see time in a whole new way.● It can be a roller coaster with highs and lows● At times it can be terrifying not knowing what will happen next month or even next week.● It can be life changing
  • How Do I Get Started?● If you are going to be freelancing as a mobile developer then you should already have some skill and knowledge as a programmer.● If you dont have experience programming for mobile, youll need to take a course or do some learning and reading on your own.● If you are just starting out, the types of projects you take on will correlate with you knowledge and skill level.● For details on equipment and software visit:● http://www.slideshare.net/dadgoesgreen/getting- started-as-an-iphone-ipad-developer AppBuilderTV.com
  • Do I Need to Set up a Business Right Away?● You may not need to set up a formal business structure like an sole proprietorship or corporation right away, unless you really feel the need to.● You can freelance under your own name and declare the extra income you make on your taxes as self employment income. Check with your local tax authority or your accountant.● You do want to keep track of your freelancing expenses and purchases.● Many jurisdictions have a threshold at which you need to collect taxes, so check your local area and see if this applies. • Getting the Sucking out of the Way● Lets be honest, your very first App is most likely not going to be a masterpiece and thats ok.● You ideally want to have at least 1 sample App youve made to show potential clients.● You can create your first App on your own and it doesnt really mater if you were paid to do it or not.● Maybe you already have an idea for an App or know friends or family that do. You are most likely going to loose you shirt on your very first App, so just grin an bare it. AppBuilderTV.com
  • What Else Do I Need?● A website or blog is not a bad idea.● Nowadays, you can get set up with a free Wordpress blog in no time at all, so If youre not in to web development, give it a shot.● Facebook and Linkedin accounts are useful.● Youll want to have a specific email address people can contact you that you use strictly for business.● Personal business cards arent a bad idea either.● Consider using your cell phone as your primary contact number initially.
