Introduction <ul><li>Reading ability is an important part of language learning. </li></ul><ul><li>The purpose of reading is to connect the ideas on the page to what you already know. </li></ul><ul><li>Reading comprehension requires motivation, mental frameworks for holding ideas, concentration and good study techniques. </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>1. Objective: Students will be able to read simple menu and chart, and understand short stories. </li></ul><ul><li>2. The age of students: 12 years old (first grade in junior high school) </li></ul><ul><li>3. Number of students: 20 students </li></ul><ul><li>4. English level: basic </li></ul><ul><li>5. Vocabulary level: 500-700 </li></ul><ul><li>6. Time: 55 minutes </li></ul><ul><li>7. Materials and equipment: computers, projector, flash cards, shopping lists, menus, 2 worksheets, and 1 quiz </li></ul>

  5. 5. Warm Up <ul><li>A shopping list with five food items is handed to each of the student. Flash cards with pictures of the items are placed on one table. The students are asked to take the cards that match with the items on the list. The first to complete the most will receive a special prize. </li></ul>

  7. 7. Activity I – A Short Story <ul><li>Out To Lunch </li></ul><ul><li>All morning, all that Ted could think about was eating lunch. He got up late and did not get a chance to eat breakfast before the school bus arrived. </li></ul><ul><li>Ted was hoping to have a Ham sandwich. Ham is Ted's favorite lunchmeat. Ted also enjoys apples, but doesn't like the yellow or green ones. </li></ul><ul><li>At lunchtime Ted ran to the cafeteria. When he got in line he asked for Ham sandwich, but they only had Tuna and Turkey. Ted is allergic to Tuna, so he asked for the Turkey. He ate the sandwich so fast that he gave himself the hiccups. </li></ul>
