Paraphrasing Taking someone else’sinformation or originalthoughts and putting itin your own words.First, you MUST:• Read the quote.• Understand the quote.• Then, put the quote in your ownwords.Direct Quote/Original Text:“During Nasser’s presidency, Egypt’s economy washighly centralized and extremely regulated. Paraphrasing When you have textthat you need toparaphrase, considerthese tips: Reread the original passage until you understand itsfull meaning. Change the sentence structure. Use key words from the original. While you need toparaphrase in your words, you cannot, and need not,substitute a different word for every word in theoriginal. Attribute the author and the page number directlyafter the paraphrased text.
