      The Team
The word “Team” appeared in the 1500’s. The Agriculture Age Team was on a farm and would have referred to a team of oxen or horses harnessed together to perform heavy duty work. Over the next 400 years, the idea of harnessing team power in the hay fields gave way to harnessing team power in sport and games, where people replaced the oxen and where the harnessing of power, though still a primary interest, slowly gave way to “team spirit”, “team watching” and “team heroes”.
The Industrial Age found uses for Teams to organize and manage people in every corner of civil, government, social and business life. By 1932 people were “teaming up” for work and games of ball.

All you needed was an objective, a niche, people, team know-how, the right team model and a common place to release all the pent-up team spirit.

      “Team” Became Synonymous
with getting things done more efficiently. Something about the “Team Model” set it apart. It had a magical Dynamic that brought out personal dedication, camaraderie and highly spirited participation in whatever tasks were to be accomplished. Teams had to be well trained, organized and managed. When released onto the playing field or business arena, the team was expected to act, before everyone’s eyes, as a “well oiled machine”.
However, these were Industrial Age Teams and as such were dependent upon industrial age thinking and technology. A well oiled machine was meant tobe in one place. Managers and operators had to be in sight of each other and under immediate control of the leadership. The contemporary playing field, factory floor and board room worked perfectly to sustain the “Team Dynamic”, but by the end of the 20th century the Industrial-Team Model was struggling to perform in a different world.

The Information Age Teams innovated upon, but held on to the basic Industrial Age attitude of “many people of 1 mind in 1 place”. But, the 21st century confirmed the top dog status of Knowledge. Knowledge proved more virtual than mechanical and required a new marriage of people, knowledge and virtual invention.
So, here we are today. In our work, we are starting to cross back and forth between real and virtual worlds. We are using real and virtual tools. We work as a team, but are more often not in the same place. We are a team of many minds, many talents, many roles, in many places.
We are the first vestiges of Teams for The Knowledge Age, we are the Virtual Teams, …..but we are still looking for what constitutes the magic of “Virtual Team Dynamic” where the field of engagement is not the farm, game, factory, corporation, state, or nation but all the above, through out the world.

      1. TEAM CONTINUITY TOOLSIt is important to keep a team mentally together and secure in the knowledge that stakes in the project are secure and the collective work is progressing. In the team community, personal attachments require confirmation and concerns need sharing. Team continuity tools fall into the realm winks, nods, grimaces and smiles. They are wakeup calls, short telegrams, post-its with a virtual twist.

    18. Summary
      The VTC Android Applications
      • In VTC Suite A, we concentrate on the first of several issues dealing with team effectiveness, specifically the factors that restore the team dynamics that faded away with the industrial age.
      • VTC applications are designed to be individually light weight and collectively powerful. They are easily used. They do not encumber. They restore real and aesthetic infrastructure to team operations. They are based upon understandings of how and why teams work.
      • VTC Apps and Android are technically in synch and capable of providing a broad range of tools for all emerging teams of the new century. Compact, always on, simple access to a complex world.
      • VTC holds promises for more that is New, Effective and Indispensible
