What Is XP - Presentation Transcript

    1. WHAT IS XP ? •Extreme Programming, or XP, is a lightweight discipline of software development based on principles of simplicity, communication, feedback, and courage. XP is designed for use with small teams who need to develop quality software quickly in an environment of rapidly-changing requirements.
    2. KEY CONCEPTS: • Iteration Cycle • Retrospective • Test Driven Development (TDD) • XP Room Concept • Batman • Slack
    3. XP TEAM - WHOLE TEAM (VALUE) Product (COST) Manager • Business Team • Developers - Sales • Designers - Marketing Project • Customers Manager QA – Domain Experts – On Site Customers ***Commitment and Trust
    4. XP Core Practices: • On-site Customer - An XP project is steered by a dedicated individual who is empowered to determine requirements, set priorities, and answer questions as the programmers have them • The Planning Process, (AKA the Planning Game) to choose what needs to be done and what needs to be deferred. • Small Releases - We will be using a 1 week cycle • Simple Design - A program built with XP should be the simplest program that meets the current requirements • Testing - XP teams focus on validation of the software at all times. • Refactoring - XP teams improve the design of the system throughout the entire development • Pair Programming - produce better software at similar or lower cost than programmers working alone • Collective Ownership - All the code belongs to all the programmers
    5. WHY XP? • Business Misunderstandings • Business changes • Schedule Slippage • False Feature Rich • Priority Alignment across the Business
