  1. 1. ICT as an effective tool for Independent Learning 3rd MEETING – Amadora (Mai 07) Used Methods – Feedback “ School Development Project” – in our school
  2. 2. Feedback about the 3-colours-exercise : <ul><li>Most of the teachers directly implied with this Project tested this type of work with their classes. </li></ul><ul><li>See the example of our global table </li></ul>

Feedback about the 3-colours-exercise : <ul><li>Students reaction: </li></ul><ul><li>a bit puzzled with the type of test </li></ul><ul><li>curious, as if it was a game </li></ul><ul><li>motivated, enthousiastic </li></ul><ul><li>But (specially the 1st time) </li></ul><ul><li>confused </li></ul><ul><li>not really conscious of their choice (youngsters mainly) </li></ul><ul><li>The majority always picks the medium level test </li></ul><ul><li>Some of the oldest students tried the difficult one first, then asked for the next one, showing that they care (a bit) more about the marks </li></ul>All of the classes asked to do it more often
  4. 4. Feedback about the 3-colours-exercise : <ul><li>Result/marks: </li></ul><ul><li>not very different from other kinds of tests </li></ul><ul><li>but </li></ul><ul><li>the important is the fact that it’s their choice . </li></ul>
  5. 5. Feedback about the 3-colours-exercise : <ul><li>KEEP IN MIND the main objectives: </li></ul><ul><li>To develop student’s responsability and autonomy </li></ul><ul><li>To make them conscious of their own knowledge </li></ul>

Feedback about the 3-colours-exercise : <ul><li>Teacher’s notes: </li></ul><ul><li>The test must be repetead along the school year to get REAL results and reach the main objective – developing students autonomy and sense of responsability </li></ul><ul><li>It’s a triple work: </li></ul><ul><li>- when creating </li></ul><ul><li>- when correcting the exercise </li></ul>

School Development Project – in our School ICT use – Making the point of the present situation: <ul><li>Questionnaire done to the teachers: </li></ul><ul><li>Use ICT preparing lessons – 86% </li></ul><ul><li>Use educational software (HotPot, etc) – 20% </li></ul><ul><li>Use specific independant learning materials – 12% </li></ul>(We will repeat this questionnaire at the end of the Project hoping to see these numbers increase .) (just 52% answered)

School Development Project – in our School <ul><li>Training sessions in each Subjet Group (not compulsory) </li></ul><ul><li>1st (Portuguese, History) already done </li></ul><ul><li>All members wanted to attend </li></ul><ul><li>Compromise: an HotPot exercise/week/each Group to put later in a future School Digital Study Room </li></ul>New HotPot exercises: (see example here )
  9. 9. <ul><li>Other GROUPS will do the same till the beginning of next school year – we want that all the teachers are given the possibility to learn how to create HotPot exercises/participate in the School Digital Study Room </li></ul>School Development Project – in our School New HotPot exercises: (We have new HP exercises made/tested by some of the colleagues in this Project Group. We’ll select some to be translated and put at the Platform – as said in the last meeting – as soon as we can.)
