  • Do you know about EDUCAUSE? Outstanding information. Their annual Horizon Report is full of data about current situation and trends.
  • I particularly like the Seven Things You Should Know factsheets, which cover a wide range of educational and technological topics: the Modern Learning Commons --Open Textbook Publishing -- iPad Apps for Learning -- Open-Ended Response Systems – Android -- the HyFlexCourse Model -- Online Media Editing – Privacy in Web 2.0 Learning Environments -- Assessing Online Team-Based Learning – LMS Alternatives -- Open Educational Resources -- Mobile Apps for Learning – Analytics -- E-Readers -- Backchannel Communication – Next-Generation Presentation Tools -- Privacy Considerations in Cloud-Based Teaching & Learning Environments -- Blended Learning: A Report on the ELI Focus Session – ELI Discovery Tool: Guide to Collaborative Learning -- Mobile Learning: Context and Prospects -- ELI Discovery Tool: Blended Learning Workshop Guide
  • Word or tag clouds are a fun way to visualize data. One of the sessions I attended was by Dr. Teresa Welsh, a former professor of mine, about visualization tools for teaching & research. She had us use text analysers and clouds as assignments in her class, as well, so I was familiar already with Wordle and some of the other tools in her presentation.
  • Wordle gives you three ways to input text for the cloud. You can cut & past into the first box; you can enter a URL in the second box; or you can enter a del.icio.us user name.I used the URL for my Wordpress site.
  • This is the result.Once the image is created in the applet, you may vary the color scheme in dozens of ways, the shape of the cloud, the direction of the word, eliminate common words, set language, set the maximum number of words to use, see the word counts, change case to all upper, all lower. To save the image, If you are a Windows user, use PrintScreen, open Paint and paste into a new image. On my Mac, I use the Grab utility app and Capture>Selection(In this case, I increased the size of the image on my screen using Command+Plus, then captured my image, because I hoped it would make a decent image to be seen on a large display in the presentation).

  • With one sheet of paper and the applet at PocketMod, you can custom create a small booklet with information you want handy – you can create and recreate your PocketMod to suit the needs of the day, week or event.
  • At the PocketMod website, drag the elements into the template and print. The eight elements will fold into a four-page booklet, approximately 2 3/4” x 4 ¼” – a little smaller than a notecard.
