    3. Introduction
      • Recently, new types of wikis have emerged, such as:
      • Qwik Web that easily integrates wikis with mailing lists;
      • Small Wiki which is a wiki enriched with metadata;
      • Sweet Wiki is a wiki enabled for semantic web technologies.
      • Distri-Wiki is a distributed and peer to peer wiki
      • AniAni-Web a personal page wiki.
      • However, none of the mentioned wikis takes advantage of Spatial Hypertext.

    5. Spatial Hypertext
      • In spatial hypertext, the relations among the elements can be represented using navigational maps or relating properties such as:
        • location,
        • proximity
        • shape
        • color
      • The links are implicit.
      • The spatial hypertext takes advantage of visual capabilities of people.
      • The spatial hypertext systems have the ability to handle and move elements in a hypertext document.
    6. Spatial Hypertext Systems Tinderbox VKB. Visual Knowledge Builder
      • Spatial Hypertext Systems:
      • NoteCards
      • StorySpace
      • Viki.

    7. Spatial Hypertext Design
      • Marshall and Shipman mention that spatial hypertext has special features that should be considered…
        • Visual characteristics.
        • Agreggating elements.
        • Size.
        • Position.
        • Links.

    10. What is a ShyWiki?
      • A ShyWiki is a wiki which uses spatial hypertext for representing its content.
    11. What is a ShyWiki? The wiki content can be seen as a collection of notes.

    15. ShyWiki characteristics
      • In a Shywiki, the users can be coauthors and codesigners of the content and the visual and spatial properties of the elements of a wiki page.
      • In a Shywiki page, each element is similar to an adhesive note, i.e., a spatial hypertext document can be seen as a set of notes.
      • A note has a unique identifier which is used to transclude Notes, and point links to them.
    16. Map nodes
      • A kind of note which is encountered in a spatial hypertext wiki is called a map node.
      • It contains a link to another wiki document, and is used to represent hypertext maps.
    17. User’s actions in a ShyWiki
      • Add notes.
      • Remove notes.
      • Move notes.
      • Change the visual characteristics of a note.
      • Group notes.
      • Transclude notes.
      • Create maps.

    27. Architecture
      • In older versions of web browsers, the only way for achieving interactive spatial hypertext representations was using java applets.
      • Nowadays, browsers have been improved by including new HTML elements and also facilitate the manipulation of the content of the document through DOM interface in JavaScript.

    31. Conclusions
      • This work has presented the characteristics of spatial hypertext wikis, and how the spatial hypertext properties affect the behavior of a wiki.
      • ShyWiki has some of the spatial hypertext wiki features.
    32. Further work
      • Study the usability and user satisfaction.
      • Define a versioning and locking strategy.
      • Look for the patterns of the notes in a wiki page.
      • How to transform a wiki in a ShyWiki, if posible.
