  • Why solar energy??
    • India is fastest growing economy with home of 1.5 billion people .
    • 11. Largely depended on conventional sources of energy & imported oil .
    • 12. Sun- The only source of energy to the earth.

  • What is wireless energy transmission??
    • Possible – by magnetic field or electromagnetic field.
    • 14. One form of energy is converted into another transmissible form and again into usable form.
    • 15. Our interest lies in transmission via LASER.
  • Why to use wireless energy transmission via LASER for solar energy??
    Solar power intensity is just- 137mW/cm2
    • Long distance transmission possible.
    • 16. Solar energy- Not a concentrated source of energy.
    • 17. Losses due to scattering of light.
    • 18. Presently only 3% of solar energy is being utilized.
    • 19. To increase efficiency of power station.

    • P-N junction diode operating in forward direction
    • 28. Uses electron hole pair as exciting material.

    • 30. GaAs LASER best material for Lasing action.
    • 31. High efficiency about 50% to 75%.
    • 32. Inherently light weight.
    • 33. Output wavelength -800 to 900 nm close to peak response wavelength of today's solar cells.
    • 34. Need of mirror or lens for concentrating light for population inversion.
  • How the power system will work?
    • The huge solar towers directly convert solar energy into concentrated LASER beam.
    • 35. LASER beam will be concentrated on receiving power station.
    • 36. Highly efficient solar cells or rectenna will convert it into electric energy.
    • 37. This station will supply power to nearby area.
    • 38. With this technology it is expected 1GW of power can be generated.
  • How it will increase the efficiency of power plants??
    • More energy will be concentrated on small area.
