  2. 2. WHAT IS RECONSTRUCTION? RECONSTRUCTION OR REBUILDING THE SOUTH WORRIED PRESIDENT LINCOLN. HE WANTED THE SOUTH TO REJOIN THE UNION QUICKLY
  3. 3. EARLY STEPS TO RECONSTRUCTION LINCOLN HAD A TEN PERCENT PLAN FOR RECONSTRUCTION. A SOUTHERN STATE COULD FORM A NEW GOVERNMENT AFTER 10 PERCENT OF ITS VOTER SWORE AN OATH OF LOYALTY TO THE UNITED STATES.
  4. 4. RIVAL PROPOSAL WADE-DAVIS BILL ANOTHER PLAN FOR RECONSTRUCTION. REQUIRED EACH SOUTHERN STATE TO SWEAR LOYALTY TO THE UNION. ALSO DENIED THE RIGHT TO VOTE OR HOLD OFFICE TO ANYONE WHO HAD CHOOSE TO FIGHT FOR THE SOUTH.
  5. 5. THE FREEDMEN'S BUREAU AN AGENCY TO HELP FORMER ENSLAVED PEOPLE. THE BUREAU GAVE FOOD, CLOTHING AND ALSO TRIED TO HELP FIND JOBS FOR FREEDMEN, GAVE MEDICAL CARE AND SET UP SCHOOLS FOR AFRICAN AMERICANS.
  6. 6. LINCOLN IS ASSASSINATED ON APRIL 14, 1865 JOHN WILKES BOOTH SHOOTS AND KILLS PRESIDENT LINCOLN. LINCOLN DIES THE NEXT MORNING.
  7. 7. MAJOR CONSPIRACY REVEALED
  8. 8. NINE PEOPLE WERE CHARGED WITH THE CONSPIRACY TO KILL PRESIDENT LINCOLN AND HIS STAFF. FOUR WERE EXECUTED AND FIVE WERE PLACED IN JAILED
  9. 9. NEW PRESIDENT ANDREW JOHNSON BECOMES THE 17TH PRESIDENT
  10. 10. 13TH AMENDMENT IS APPROVED  THE 13TH AMENDMENT IS APPROVED AND BANNED SLAVERY THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES.
