Meet your new Librarian! <ul><li>Cheyenne Maria Roduin </li></ul><ul><li>Washington State Native </li></ul><ul><li>Mother, Wife, Chef </li></ul><ul><li>Graduate from UW Library School (2007) </li></ul><ul><li>Background in humanities, medical informatics, young adult library programs, academic libraries, and research </li></ul>

Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.” – Groucho Marx <ul><li>In the old days….. </li></ul><ul><li>Libraries were only places for books. </li></ul><ul><li>The catalog was a file cabinet full of handwritten note cards. </li></ul><ul><li>The collections were mostly donated from townspeople once they were done reading them. </li></ul><ul><li>Librarians went around “Ssshhhhhing” people. </li></ul>
  4. 4. “ You see, I don't believe that libraries should be drab places where people sit in silence, and that's been the main reason for our policy of employing wild animals as librarians.” – Monty Python <ul><li>Today…. </li></ul><ul><li>Libraries are full of various print and electronic tools and resources. </li></ul><ul><li>The collections and resources actively reflect what our community needs and wants. </li></ul><ul><li>Librarians encourage group collaboration and idea sharing. </li></ul><ul><li>Librarians anxiously await the opportunity to help the students, staff & faculty. </li></ul>

Information Literacy <ul><li>Instruct & guide students in information literacy skills such as… </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Finding, understanding, and evaluating quality information and facts (how to tell good info from bad) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>How to locate, analyze, interpret, evaluate, & record info and ideas </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Use information to solve academic, social, global, personal, and technological problems </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Develop and apply new facts and info to create projects, assignments, and skills </li></ul></ul>

Build Library use and resources into classes <ul><li>Partner with faculty to customize library research and instruction for specific courses </li></ul><ul><li>Provide basic-to-advanced assignments in the use of library resources (easy to incorporate into your course assignments) </li></ul><ul><li>Demonstrate innovative technologies for class communications and knowledge sharing (blogs, wikis, Flickr, YouTube, Podcasting) </li></ul>
