  • 2. Why is a Resume Important?Your resume is really your first impressionand just like any real, one-on-one interview, its important that your resume conveys theright “image” of your experiences.
  • 3. What is important on your RESUME?A resume is a brief summary of yourabilities, education, experience, and skills. Its main task is to convince prospectiveemployers to contact you. A resume hasone purpose: to get you a jobinterview.
  • 4. Steps To Creating A Resume
  • 5. THE HEADINGThis section will always appear at the top of yourpage regardless of which format you choose. Itcontains your name, address, phone number andemail address.
  • 6. EDUCATIONThe information that goes in this section is presented inchronological order, meaning the most recent school youattended is listed first. Coursework and course projects canenhance this section but is optional.
  • 7. EXPERIENCEThis is the most important section of your resume. Sell yourself!List your accomplishments, skills and abilities in a way that createsinterest on the part of the employer. Give them a reason to want tomeet you face to face.
  • 8. EXPERIENCE cont.*Use action verbs to help your jobresponsibilities stand out! (i.e. managed, planned, contacted, organized, ect.) Yourresume should be no more than 1 page.Volunteer work is fine to list here if you donot have any - or much – paid employment.
  • 9. OTHER SECTIONSThere are other sections that can be added to aresume including, awards/honors, activities, certifications (as long as they relate to the positionbeing sought) skills, languages, etc.
