A field comparison of Buprenorphine versus methadone maintenance treatment. aNorfolk & Waveney Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (NWMHFT), UK.
The authors of this article, researchers from the School of Medicine, Health Policy & Practice, University of East Anglia, are comparing the effectiveness of methadone maintenance treatment with the effectiveness of Bupenorphine. They selected a large group of opiate addicts in which the researchers let the addicts choose between the methadone and Buprenorphine treatment. They found that the patients who choose the methadone treatment were more addicted and had more physical and mental problems, but were more likely to stay on the treatment. But the ones in the Buprenorphine treatment were more likely to achieve detoxification. The data collected is very significant for my article because I wish to explain the use of Buprenorphine as an alternative treatment for addicts. This research shows that the Buprenorhine treatment is more convenient.
