  • We started with basic infrastructure for individual creators. That was the flat land where we could build the infrastructure the fastest – the photographers, the bloggers, the remix artists.
  • But you have to move from the edge to true infrastructure if you want to scale. That means looking not just at individual creators, but at institutions and business cases for CC. I showed how Flickr, which provided infrastructure to photographers, led to the explosion in CC licensed content – because it was a business case, one that scaled. We wanted to take that example, build on it, and embed ourselves into the startup and established business culture, as well as get CC used at large institutions, like universities, and even by governments.
