The Mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Established in 1962 by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital commits to providing medical care to all children in need, regardless of their race, religion, or family’s economic situation. Internationally lauded for its pioneering work to combat pediatric cancer and other childhood diseases, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital ranks as the top children’s cancer hospital in U.S. News & World Report, as well as Parents magazine.

The Mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Additionally, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital oversees the only Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children that is recognized by the National Cancer Institute. Some of the most gifted medical professionals in practice today, the physicians at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital received numerous awards for their work, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology Pediatric Oncology Award, the American Association of Critical Care Nurses’ Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence, and the American Association for Cancer Research Team Science Award.

The Mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Since its inception, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has treated more than 20,000 children from across the United States and 70 foreign countries. Approximately 5,700 children are treated as continuing outpatients on an annual basis. The hospital maintains 78 beds for patients whose conditions warrant longer- term stays.
