The text to “ Great is Thy Faithfulness ” was written in 1923 by Thomas Obadiah Chisolm. Chisolm was born in Kentucky in 1866 and was a Schoolteacher at age 16, a Newspaper Editor at 22, became a Christian at 28, a Methodist Minister for a short time and later an Insurance Agent. He died in 1960. He also wrote “ Living for Jesus ” The music was composed by William Runyan in 1923. The two men worked together to create this classic hymn. The text is based on Lamentations 3:22–23 [It is of] the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. [They are] new every morning: great [is] thy faithfulness.
