CPWF strategy in Phase 2

  1. 1. Focusing the strategy in phase 2 Focusing on the technical content found to be most promising Focusing even more on research that will begin development impact within the 15 year CPWF time frame All research is interdisciplinary, includes cross- scale analysis and focuses on resilience
  2. 2. Focusing the strategy in Phase 2 Six river basins (Nile, Volta, Limpopo, Ganges, Mekong, Andean System) not nine 1-2 development challenges in specific parts of each basin (building on phase 1 results) CPWF as the platform for partners to contribute their specialist expertise Flexible cross-basin topic working groups in support of basin research
  3. 3. Top priority challenges in each basin Volta (Burkina/Ghana) Small reservoirs and rainwater management Andes (7 small basins) Benefit-sharing mechanisms to improve water productivity and reduce water-related conflict Nile (especially Ethiopian highlands) A landscape approach to rainwater management
  4. 4. Top priority challenges in each basin Limpopo (Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa) Small reservoirs and rainwater management Ganges delta Integrated agriculture and aquaculture Mekong (especially the “3S” border area Laos- Cambodia-Vietnam) Multiple use of reservoirs
  5. 5. Initial set of topic working groups Increasing rainwater productivity Multiple use systems Water benefit sharing Global drivers of change Processes of innovation in R for D Participation and gender (There will be periodic additions, mergers and deletions)
