Aileen killed strangers with a gun , media ran with it.
Born February 29, 1956 to Leo Dale Pittman and Diane Wuornos in Rochester, Michigan.
Older brother, Keith was born in 1955.

Aileen’s Childhood Her mother abandon her so her grandparent’s adopted her and Keith. She had a horrible temper. Started having sex with her brother Keith at age 10.
Did not get along with other kids, so started to have sex with boys for loose change and cigarettes at age 11.
Would sneak out of the house and go to “the pit.”
Would use the money to buy alcohol and cigarettes and “bought” her friends.
The beginning of males not respecting her.

Baby given up for adoption immediately, she never got to see him. Same year, her grandmother died. Because of bad behavior, her grandfather kicked Keith and Aileen out of the house.
She was only 15 years old.

Aileen’s Husband While working, a 70 year old man picked her up. Tired of her lifestyle, thought she would be off the streets, so she married him.
He claimed she hit him with his cane when he wouldn’t give her spending money.
Florida A decade past of Aileen prostituting on the streets of Florida. Used money to drink and buy drugs.
Had numerous relationships with men, nothing worked.
Attempted Suicide 1978, at age 22 shot herself with a .22 caliber pistol in the abdomen. Wasn’t the first time she attempted to kill herself.
Didn’t receive psychological counseling.
Bikini Bandit Drunkenly robbed a mini mart with a gun, in a bikini. Car overheated when trying to get away.
Cops caught her and she spent 3 years in prison.
Ty Age 28, Aileen decided to turn lesbian because men couldn’t give her what she wanted. 1986 - Met Tyria Moore, 24, in a gay bar and went home with her that night. Ty became her everything, her anchor. Aileen continued to prostitute to support Ty.
Ty tried to stop her but failed.
Wear & Tear At age 33, been working the streets of Florida for more than a decade.
The wear and tear of her lifestyle began to show.
Wear & Tear Didn’t have natural tools to bring in clients.
She needed to find another way to make money.
Richard Mallory - Victim 1
Suspicions arose when his 1977 Cadillac was found right outside Daytona.
Mallory cont’d Dec 13, 1989 body discovered by two men searching for scrap metal along a dirt road. Body was wrapped in carpet.
Fingerprints from decomposed hand identified him.

Aileen’s Reaction Aileen told Ty that she had killed someone. Ty originally didn’t believe her. Car - cleaned for fingerprints, dumped all items, abandoned car in woods.
Ty didn’t say anything b/c she didn’t think Aileen would do it again.

Body identified June 7, 1990 by dental records.

Police Baffled They weren’t certain if they had only one killer.
This made it hard to put it all together.
Peter Siems - Victim 4 Body has never been found.
Was reported missing June 7, 1990
Discovery of Car Aileen rolled 4th victim’s car Aileen ripped off license plate with bare hands to avoid car being identified.
Volunteer firefighter stopped them on the side of the road and asked if they were the one’s who wrecked the car, Aileen cussed her out and said no.
Troy Burress - Victim 5 Body found August 4, 1990 by picnicking family.
Body badly decomposed, but wife identified him by wedding ring.

Reeling them in… Aileen got her victims by…
Motorist pulling over thinking a female was in distress.
Every Victim She robbed them of all valuables. She stole the car, usually for short term.
None of the victims had anything in common.
The Capture Police put out a state-wide paper and sketch. Leads named them as Ty or Tyria Moore, and Lee Blahovec.
Cops monitored them, Aileen got hotel room as Cammie Marsh Greene.
Volusia County officers checked area pawnshops. They found in Daytona, Greene had pawned a camera and radar detector belonging to Mallory (Victim 1). Aileen left thumbprint on receipt.
In Ormand, she pawned tools belonging to Spears (Victim 2).
The Thumbprint Found nothing on initial search. Did hand search of Volusia county. Found a match with a Lori Grody, weapons charge and outstanding warrant. Bloody print found in Siems’s car matched a Lori Grody. All info was sent to National Crime Information Center. Received responses from Colorado, Michigan and Florida.
Lori Grody, Susan Blahovec and Cammie Marsh Greene were all aliases for Aileen Wuornos.
The Arrest Two undercover cops asked her if she wanted to get cleaned up in their hotel room.
She accepted and they arrested her as Lori Grody on an outstanding warrant.
The Confession Cops interviewed Ty January 10, 1991
She only knew about one murder, so cops gave her a deal to let her go if she helped snare Aileen.
She wrote Aileen to call her at her hotel. Ty repeatedly told Aileen that she was freaking out and the cops kept asking her and her family questions, try to get her to same something incriminating as the cops were bugging the line. Aileen accused her of having police officer’s in the room and Ty denied it.
Soon, after several phone conversations, Aileen felt comfortable talking to her and turned to protecting her.
The Final Phone Call
"Just go ahead and let them know what you need to know, what they want to know or anything, and I will cover for you, because you're innocent. I'm not going to let you go to jail. Listen, if I have to confess, I will.”
The Confession January 16, 1991 - 3 hour confession
She claimed there was no other girl.
The Trial Plead guilty to six charges of 1st degree murder. January 14, 1992, went to trial for the murder of Richard Mallory, they sought death penalty. Ty testified against her. Aileen was the only witness for herself. Her temper came out while on the stand.
They tried insanity defense.
The Verdict Jury deliberated for 2 hours. Found her guilty of first degree murder.
January 31, 1992 - Judge Uriel Blount sentenced her to the electric chair.
Her Death July 2001, She asked to stop all appeals and be executed. “ There’s no chance in keeping me alive or anything, cause I’d kill again, I have hate crawling through my system.” She chose lethal injection over the electric chair. Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at 9:47 a.m. was executed.
“ I'd just like to say I'm sailing with the Rock and I'll be back like Independence Day with Jesus, June 6th, like the movie, big mothership and all. I'll be back.”
Her Confession to God Final note she wrote days before execution. Begged for God’s forgiveness.
She recanted her claims of self-defense because she wanted to make right with God.
