Past Perfect - Use
This tense indicates that an action was finished at some point in the past before something else happened.
In this case use Past Perfect vs. Simple Past
USE 1 Completed Action Before Something in the Past

Past Perfect - Construction
Auxiliary + Verb in
Had past participle

Past Perfect - Examples
I had visited my sister before she went to Mexico.
She had visited her sister before she went to Mexico.
He had visited his sister before she went to Mexico.
You had visited your sister before she went to Mexico.
We had visited our sister before she went to Mexico.
They had visited their sister before she went to Mexico.

Past Perfect - Examples
When I arrived home, I found that someone had broken into my house and had stolen my i-pod.
I had never flown , so I was very nervous.
She decided not to come to Acapulco with us because she had been there before.
